Softball falls to Marian

On a night bigger than the scoreboard, Washington Softball fell to Marian 0–14, but the story was the community that showed up and the strength that took center stage before first pitch. As part of Hope at Bat Cancer Night, WHS teacher Mrs. McGwin—a breast cancer survivor and a daily example of resilience in our building—threw out the ceremonial first pitch. The moment landed. Players, families, and staff stood with her, honoring the fight she’s won and the hope she represents for so many. Once the game got rolling, Marian’s offense found its rhythm early and kept pressure on throughout. Even as the Knights built their lead, Washington stayed locked in—competing in the field, talking each other up, and refusing to let the night’s purpose get lost in the score. For the Panthers, this one becomes fuel. The focus shifts to growth, reps, and the next opportunity to show who they are between the lines. But the lasting image from tonight isn’t the final score. It’s Mrs. McGwin on the mound, smiling, strong, and surrounded by a community that loves her.
